The PUBLIC SPACE RESEARCH GROUP welcomes, Dr. Margarita Triguero-Mas presenting, Beyond healthy greenspaces: Gentrification and health equity considerations.

Cities are restoring or creating new greenspaces to address diverse socio-environmental and health challenges. However, greenspace interventions may be affected by processes such as gentrification. Applying the therapeutic landscapes concept, we present the impacts of gentrification on the associations between greenspaces and the health of underprivileged, often long-term neighborhood residents.

Dr. Margarita Triguero-Mas is an affiliated research scientist at Mariana Arcaya’s research lab from the Department of Urban Studies – Massachusetts Institute of Technology (DUSP-MIT) and also an associated researcher at the Barcelona Laboratory for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability (BCNUEJ) at Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Margarita is a social environmental scientist working at the intersection of public health, urban planning and environmental justice. She obtained her PhD in Biomedicine at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) in 2017. Her research focuses on the health impacts of urban nature, with a particular focus on health equity.
