Ana Terra presents: Intersectional climate justice: From theory to practice

February 25, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The PUBLIC SPACE RESEARCH GROUP welcomes, Ana Terra presenting, Intersectional Climate Justice – From Theory to Practice.

In this talk, Ana proposes an intersectional pivot in climate adaptation research and practice to analyze the interconnected forms of social-environmental injustices that drive vulnerabilities in cities. She presents a new conceptual framework for ‘intersectional climate justice’ and illustrates it with examples of ongoing projects in Barcelona, Spain. The framework paves the way for more concrete and integrated strategies of just urban adaptation and transformation, while the examples provide illustrative directionality for innovative approaches that can address multiple and intersecting vulnerabilities.

Ana Amorim-Maia is a doctoral researcher at the Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability. She holds a diploma in Environmental Engineering from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a joint European Master’s in Environmental Studies – Cities and Sustainability from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg. Her current research explores climate adaptation planning and action from an intersectional justice perspective, with a particular focus on the urban equity implications of climate refuges and shelters.
